An ocean of experience and skills
My story
There’s always been a watery undercurrent to my life. Born and brought up in Oman and other Arabian Gulf countries, I swam, snorkelled and explored rock pools from a very young age.
My first environmental science degree was taught within the Oceanography department at the University of Liverpool. This was where I decided to specialise in marine environmental science. It played to my strengths in chemistry, my interest in combating pollution and my love of being in the water.
Since gaining my MSc from Plymouth University, I’ve worked across the world on projects for the Wildlife Trusts, the Marine Conservation Society and Total Energies . I also helped shape environmental regulations in Saudi Arabia as part of a mega tourism project. I recently lead and contributed the marine chapter of a book about Qatar’s environment.

My approach
Flexible and practical
Whether you need a report writing, or an Environmental Impact Assessment oversight, I can help. You can bring me on board from the start to establish strategic planning and project management. Or for the public relations / stakeholder consultation stage.
Connecting with everyone
Need someone who can brief the drilling team and the board? No problem. I genuinely enjoy getting involved in stakeholder management. My experience of working for e-NGOs, regulators, energy companies, port authorities and HSE teams gives me a unique experience of the different perspectives involved.
A trusted network
Whether an issue involves seaweed or sharks, a ‘niche’ subject is never a problem. My decades of experience mean I know the right international ecology and marine specialist or academic to contact. I also know how to build a project team from the ground up.
I also collaborate with the health and safety provider Zaca Safety Solutions.
Unbiased advice
I’m an independent marine environmental consultant with no affiliations. This means I apply my knowledge and experience to come up with the best solution for your project. And for the planet. Together, we can make your project as efficient as possible.

Corporate responsibility
As a small environmental business SOME Consulting is helping businesses to operate responsibly within the blue economy. To do this SOME needs to be responsible itself. The steps taken so far on SOME’s direct impact are:
- Calculated our carbon footprint with Small 99
- Supporting Make it Wild to offset calculated carbon emissions
- Using renewable energy sources only, taking public transport whenever possible
- Bank with Starling and continue to monitor the credentials of the bank via the bank.green initiative.
- Only choose refurbished for all major purchasing items and procure locally for smaller items
Initiatives/organisations I support:

What does SOME stand for?
SOME is short for Sustainable Oceans Management for the Environment.
